People often get confused about the capital of Morocco; it is neither Casablanca nor Marrakech, it’s actually the city of Rabat (pronounced “ribat” in Arabic)! It is located north of the country, on the Atlantic coast, not far from Casablanca and Fes. Rabat is more and more visited by tourists, especially for the great The Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Kasbah of the Udayas.
If you decide to give Rabat a try during your trip to Morocco, we recommend you stay in one of the riads of the city. It will give you a taste of the traditional Moroccan lifestyle and you will enjoy the comfort and legendary hospitality of Moroccans. 🙂
To help you choose one, we have selected 5 of the best riads in Rabat. Get ready to be blown away!
1. Riad Meftaha
Riad Meftaha is one of Rabat’s best traditional houses, as far as accommodation is concerned. It is located literally a few meters away from the medina and is therefore ideal for a tourist stay. The staff is very welcoming and will help to plan your visit to the city. As you can see, you will be immersed in a typical oriental setting with countless shades of red.
Riad Meftaha also offers very comfortable rooms and everything you could possibly need during your stay. Do not miss out on their hearty breakfast; it’s a real treat!

2. Dar Shâan
We’re taking things to the next level with the great Dar Shâan! This one is right in the heart of the medina of Rabat and you can get there through the beautiful pedestrian streets of the old city. Dar Shâan has a rather modern and luxurious style without losing its original Moroccan touch. FYI, it has been renovated only a few years ago.
Dar Shâan has a very nice swimming pool upstairs, which is absolutely refreshing during hot summer days. There’s also a gorgeous terrace overlooking the medina.
The rooms are also perfect! They’re spacious and beautifully decorated with a mixture of modern and oriental styles.

3. Dar Mayssane
We’re still in the beautiful Medina of Rabat, this time recommending the sublime Dar Mayssane. The staff will be at your service during your stay at the riad and will also help you plan your activities in Rabat. The most pleasant place in this house is undoubtedly the central patio that has so many green plants. It kind of reminded me of Bali!
It makes you want to sit there and enjoy a nice minty tea, doesn’t it? 🙂 You will also notice that a lot of furniture (doors, beds, tables, chairs) are made of wood by local craftsmen actually.
There is also a terrace on the roof of this riad so do not forget to take a look and enjoy the panoramic view during the day or the night!

4. Dar Soufa
We’re still in the Medina, this time recommending the great Dar Soufa. Its architecture is typical of a traditional Moroccan house with a patio and a fountain in the center and rooms all around.
Dar Soufa offers very affordable prices as well as great customer service. If you’re on a budget, definitely book a room at this riad but do it as early as possible because it tends to sell out pretty quickly, especially during high season.
As you can see, this traditional house is neat and tidy and employs the best staff ever. Cheers to Fadwa for being so helpful!

5. Euphoriad
Last but certainly not least on our selection of the most beautiful riads in Rabat is the magnificent Euphoriad. It is also located in the old town and has just been renovated but still retains its traditional features. It feels like you’re living in a palace!
This traditional house also has many modern-style furniture that blend very well with the traditional Moroccan style, in total heavenly harmony! And the rooms are masterpieces of design and style!
There’s also a beautiful infinity pool where you enjoy great views and nice cocktails. How awesome is that? Need a hammam to makes things even more awesome? Well, there is also one on the roof of the Euphoriad. 🙂
